CLUB COMPETITIONS

PAEROA RUGBY MEETING Whether the combined competitions of the Paeroa and Waihi Rugby unions had been a success or not was the subject of discus- • sion at the annual meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Football Union held on Tuesday evening last in the Civic hall, Paeroa.

Mr E. C. Morgan raised the point that in his annual report the chairman of the management committee, Mr W. F. Faber, had understated the difficulties which had arisen and there were further enquiries as to what would be done to guard against such unsatisfactory results in the coming year.

Mr W. P. Corrigan also spoke on the subject and referred to the fact that two competitions had not even been completed.

Replying, Mr Faber inforined the meeting that the idea of holding the annual meeting at such an early date was so that a controlling body could be set up to make decisions binding in both unions. The decision to inaugurate the combined competitions had been made right upon the commencement, of the actual matches and no controlling body had been set up. The need for such a body had been overlooked. Another difficulty was that the Waihi union actually went into recess prior to the conclusion of the combined competitions. Mr Faber went? on to say that, with a new committee in existence, and plenty of time during the recess to arrange matters, there would, he thought, be no difficulty in guarding against such a complication in the future.

In reply to a question Mr Faber assured the meeting that the Paeroa union had not committed itself to combined competitions for the coming season with the Waihi union or any other union.
