HIKUAI HEADMASTER
GOODBYE TO MR & MRS SHAW
At a farewell social and dance_jn the Hikuai hall on Saturday night settlers said goodbye to Mr and Mrs D. EL Shaw and their daughters, Betsey and Lindsay. Mr Shaw, who has been head teacher at the Hikuai school for seven years and who previously had taught at the Tairua school, has been transferred to the Herekino school, south of the Ninety Mile beach. Mrs Shaw will be an assistant teacher. The hall had one of its largest gatherings for many years. The chairman of the school committee, Mr J. R. McCall, presented Mr and Mrs Shaw with a chiming clock on behalf of. residents.
Mr A. Beach, captain of the TairuaHikuai Football Club, presented Mr Shaw with a smoker’s stand. Mr Shaw was an official of the Mercury Bay Rugby Sub-union.
A presentation 'was also made on behalf of Jthe basketball club by Mrs S. Morrison of crockery and a set of brushes in a leather case.
Betsey and "Lindsay received bouquets. Music, was supplied by Mr E. Sutherland and his players.
Songs were given by Mr R. Challis of Thames.
