SHOULD BE PAID

LOCAL BODY MEMBERS MINISTER SYMPATHETIC The matter of the payment to the chairman and members of drainage and river boards was the subject of a report from the New Zealand Drainage and River Boards Association which came before the July meeting of the Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board, held recently at Ngatea. The report stated that the matter had been discussed with both Hon. W. Nash and Hon. W. E. Parry and that it appeared that both agreed that some reasonable payment should be made. The suggestion was made that if boards desirous of paying their chairman and members liked to apply for special legislation it might be favourably considered. ' The report went on to state that the deputation to the ministers had replied that all boards desired statutory authority to pay some reasonable amount, at their discretion, and pointed out that other local body associations were pioving in the same direction.
