GARDEN PARTY
BAY INSTITUTE FUNCTION SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON On Friday, February 18, the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute held a very successful garden party in Mrs L. White’s grounds at Whitianga. One very light shower fell, but it did not interrupt proceedings, and a very enjoyable and profitable afternoon was spent. Members of the committee were Mesdames Oxley, Wotherspoon, Russell and Lee, while Mesdames L. White, Walker and Wotherspoon did a brisk trade on the bring and buy stall. Games and competitions were popular and were run by Mrs Heald and Miss J. Simpson (darts), Mrs A. Chaney (bagatelle), Mrs Wells (wall quoits), and Mrs Bronlund (competitions). Mrs Oxley was on the gate. Afternoon tea, served by Mesdames Sharpies, Crabb, Foster and Lee, was much appreciated. Winners of the games and competitions were: Darts, Mrs A. J. T. Simpson 1, Mrs Packer 2. Bagatelle: Mrs Arnold 1. Quoits: Mrs A. J. T. Simpson. Competitions: Mrs Sharpies, Mrs Crisp and Mrs A. Chaney. A vote of thanks accorded Mrs L. White was carried by acclamation.
