STRIPED MARLIN CAUGHT . — ' FISHING AT MERCURY BAY The largest striped martin to be landed in New Zealand this num was canght at Mercury Bay on Saturday. The marlin weighed 452 lb. and it took Mr Frank Seale one hour 40 minutes to land. For identification it will be forwarded to the Auckland Museum. Three other marlins were caught at Mercury Bay on Saturday. A 328-pounder was landed by Mr R. Bate of Huntly; a 222-pounder by Mr D. G. McKeannan of Huntly and a 216-pounder by Mr V. Aldridge of Christchurch. The world record for a striped marlin is held by an American, Mr A. Hamanft, who caught eae weighing 092 lb. at Balboa, California, in 1931. A claim was forwarded to the International Game Fishing Association last June, by Mr J. C. Black of Auckland, that a marlin weight 465 Ibu caught at Tauranga on a line, be recognised as a world record.
