TENNIS DANCE

PRESENTATION OF CUP FUNCTION AT COLVILLE Soft lights, confetti, balloons, streamers and a large attendance of pleasure seekers from Coromandel. Waikawau and Port Charles, mingled with the Colville public on the night of July 23, making the tennis cup presentation a glorious success. Dancing continued to music supplied by Mrs Darrell Stewart (piano and piano accordian), Mr W. Hart (drums) and Mrs A. Evans (piano). Two features of the evening were the old time “Lancers” led by that grand old master of ceremonies, Mr C. Ngamane, and the “Congo” headed in a snake-like rhythm by “Mossy” Marshall of Coromandel. Prizes donated by Miss Marjorie Reddy and Mrs Walter Evans for a “nursery rhymes” waltz were won by Mrs D. Stewart and Mr M. Marshall, and a Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mrs Alex Carey, after much “barracking on the side-lines” for the contestants. Mr William Kennedy won the competition prize, a huge sponge cake.

In making the presentations, Mr H. Morrow, president of the club, apologised for the absence of Mr Neil Bridle, winner of the men’s singles’ cup and called upon Miss Jill Evans to accept the Feek rose bowl (ladies’ singles) and with Mr R. Williams the Fenwick cup (combined doubles). After Miss Evans’ reply, Mr Williams, upon behalf of his partner, made a neat little speech of thanks and congratulated his partner on their success. After a delicious and bountiful supper, dancing was resumed.
