PLEASING CONCERT

HELD AT WHITIANGA ARRANGED BY INSTITUTE There was a large audience present when the women’s institute concert party visited Whitianga. The party was handicapped by lack of a stage and proper dressing rooms in the partly erected hall, while seating accommodation was far from luxurious, but there was no doubt that everyone spent a most enjoyable evening. All the items were popular but Mrs N. Lithgow’s delightful voice and Mr G. Pinnock’s fine singing were specially pleasing to the adults in the audience. Miss Didi Paetai and the Browne sisters were a delight to all and especially to the youngsters. Mrs D. Brady and Mrs G. Pinnock were very amusing in the sketch “ Mind Over Matter,” and Mrs Brady nearly brought the house down when she presented a monologue, “ As I was saying yesterday, Mrs Thomas.” Mrs Sharpies, president of the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute, welcomed the visitors. At the close of the programme Mrs Pinnock thanked all those present, and the members of the concert party for the successful evening, and for their goodwill and comradeship. A call for three cheers for the concert party was well responded to.

The concert closed with the national anthem and then the young people cleared the hall for a dance.
