MARAMARUA HUNT

OVER 70 FOLLOWERS DAY AT MANGATANGI TWO HARES HUNTED AND LOST Although weather conditions were showery and the ground underfoot was very wet there were over 70 followers present on Saturday when the Maramarua Hunt held a meet at Mangatangi over the properties of Messrs R. Hensen, F. Shuker, H. Chamberlain and H. C. Adams. There is no doubt that enthusiasm for this sport is growing, as the number of followers is increasing at every hunt this season.

Two hares were put up but no kills were made but there were plenty of good jumps and long runs, the followers all returning well satisfied with their day.

Among onlookers were such wellknown enthusiasts as Messrs E. P. Fathers (Paeroa), B. Mulhern (Waihi), Henders and Adams (Maramarua) and R. Green (Turua).

Morning and afternoon tea was served at the homestead of Mr and Mrs H. C. Adams. At the close of the day the master, Mr A. C. Feist, thanked Mr and Mrs Adams for their generous hospitality and the farmers for allowing their property to be hunted over. Hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess and the farmers, Mr Adams replying briefly.

The hounds were thrown off on Mr Hensen’s property and crossed the road into Mr Adams’ property, where a two mile run took the hunt into a gully where the hare was lost. Shortly after this a second hare was put up and another long run was enjoyed, then the hare doubled back several times and ran into Mr Hensen’s, but quickly made for barred country and so was lost.
