£1 FOR £1 SUBSIDY

COROMANDEL WHARF GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE Advice was received by the Coromandel County Council at its November meetinig from the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, that the Public Works Department had recommended a £1 for £1 subsidy on the wharf proposal at Coromandel and that the proposal was to be submitted to the Cabinet at an early date. The chairman, Mr E. Deeble, said that although it was not what had ■been hoped there was one redeeming feature and that was that the Government had now definitely committed itself to a deep water wharf. A duty for the incoming council, Mr Deeble said, was to build on the foundation that had been laid. He said that he felt gratified that the matter had arrived at such a satisfactory position. It was agreed that the matter should be left to the incoming council.
