WATER ON DOMAIN

MOLE DRAINS SUGGESTED RUGBY UNION’S VIEWS BOROUGH TO INVESTIGATE “ I have been instructed by the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union to draw attention to the bad drainage that exists at the Paeroa domain playing fields,” said the acting secretary of the Rugby union in a letter to the November meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. “ The committee views with concern the deterioration evident on the grounds following rainy periods. “It is known that mole draining equipment is to be demonstrated at Kerepeehi in the near future by the Lands Department and my committee feels sure that if your council made representations, the use of the equipment could be arranged to mole plough the fields in question. This I understand would .be a matter of only a few hours’ work and would certainly prevent further deterioration and would strengthen the turf.” The mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, stated that mole draining did a lot of good in some instances, ibut in the case of the domain the ground underneath would have to be broken up, possibly by explosion. It was decided to refer the matter to the domain committee for further investigation.
