NGATEA DISTRICT HIGH DENTAL CLINIC TO BE BUILT At the November meeting of the Ngatea District High 'School committee Messrs D. A. Waite (chairman), W. Jones, H. Dalgety, T. Sydenham, R. Williams, H. Hayward, E. Jackson, W. E. Cocks (secretary) and H. R. Hill (headmaster) were present. Concerning the proposed purchase of a bandsaw for the boys’ technical department, the secretary i-. ported having received contributions .by a cheque from the Kopuarahi and Waitakaruru school committees. As soon as the remaining contributions come in the machine will be procured and installed without delay. A letter was received from a Ngaruawahia contractor for the erection of the new dental clinic, stating that the work would be begun as soon as possible.

The Auckland Education Board wrote concerning the Miranda settlers’ request for conveyance for seven prospective high school pupils to Ngatea and asked whether the Waitakaruru school bus which runs to within one mile of the Miranda cwharf road, could bring the pupils to connect with the Ngatea school bus at Waitakaruru, or whether a separate run would be necessary. The board also asked for information concerning what timetable amendments, if any, would be needed, what additional mileage would be entailed and the extra cost involved. The headmaster consented to interview the bus contractor and secure the desired information.

The groundsman reported having spent considerable time in cleaning windows,, topping trees, improving hand basin drainage in the main building, cleaning the drain beside the main drive, repairing desks, ventilators and windows, erecting new concrete gate posts at the entrance to the drive, "repairing and re-hanging the drive gate. He also notified the committee of broken windows, and further desk repairs for which new hinges were needed. The secretary was authorised to purchase glass and putty for windows and also a stock of desk hinges for the groundsman’s use. The committee decided to make no charge for admission to the school grounds on the forthcoming parents’ day.
