TO BE LICENSED

FOOD SHOPS IN COUNTY BY-LAWS TO BE ADOPTED THAMES COUNCIL’S DECISION A decision that .by-laws be adopted which provide for the licensing of food premises, and that the provisions of the regulations under the Health Act, 1920, dealing with such premises, shall be deemed to apply within the Thames county, was made at the September meeting of the council on the recommendation of the Health Inspector, Mr T. W. Adams. Further to recent discussions on the control of food premises, the inspector advised that although some of these premises in the county were fairly satisfactory structurally and were being maintained in a fairly clean manner, there were other’s where considerable improvement was necessary in order to comply with regulations under the Health Act. “ I consider that where premises are not satisfactory, the occupiers should make some improvement each year to bring their premises up to a satisfactory standard within a reasonable period, and that where new premises are being established they should be required to comply fully with the reasonable minimum standard laid down in the regulations,” wrote the inspector. “The difficulties of bringing about a gradual improvement in. any area where no by-laws are in force will be appreciated, and as the Thames county is the only remaining area in my inspection district without suitable by-laws relating to food premises, I shall be glad if you would place this matter before your council for consideration.”
