NOT TO BE LET
WAITAKARURU WHARF SHED SHIPPING SERVICE MAY START In view of the possibility of a shipping service to- Waitakaruru being started again, the Hauraki Plains County Council at its August meeting decided not to let the Waitakaruru wharf shed in the meantime.
The county clerk, Mr E. A. Mahoney, reported on the question as under:—
“ Mr E. R. Butler of Waitakaruru called here in reply to my letter advising that the council would allow him the use of the Waitakarurn wharf shed at a rental of 10s per week, terminable at one month’s notice. He states that this rent is not acceptable to him unless he can get a definite tenure and alter the structure to suit him. I advised him to write to the council in time for next meeting and state his case.” The council briefly discussed the position when Cr. J. W. Neate announced that there was a possibility of a firm starting a shipping service to Waitakaruru in the near future and therefore the shed'would be required again.
The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, stated that the stopbank on which the shed was built would have to be raised in the near future. The council decided not to let the shed at present. ,
