ACCIDENT SEQUEL
DRIVING A RENTAL CAR HEARING IN COURT 1 A sequel to an accident at the turnoff of the Orongo-Thames-Turua roads, when a motor-car struck a power pole, was heard at the Thames Magistrate’s Court, before Mr W. H. Freeman, !S.M., when John Samuel Kelly, of Auckland, was charged with permitting another person to drive a rental car without the consent of the licensee, Johnson’s Motors, of Auckland. Defendant did not appear, a letter from him being produced ad • mitting the offence. Defendant was the holder of a driving license, and had signed the form for renting the car, said Sergeant N. W. Baylis, of Thames. However, he was not driving at the time of the accident. There had been five people in the car, none being injured. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed.
