HIKUTAIA HOUSEHOLDERS SCHOOL COMMITTEE PICNIC COMMITTEE ELECTED 'The annual householders’ meeting held at Hikutaia (School on April 10 drew only a fair attendance, fourteen persons including' the headmaster, Mr B. A. Kelly, being- present. Mr Kelly in giving- a report of the past two years stated that all mattersin connection with the school were most satisfactory. The roll number at present was <l23' and to keep up to a four teacher school as at present it was necessary to have 130 enrolled, but this- number would be reached throughout the year as a number of new pupils would be soon reaching school age. The term’s work so far had been greatly handicapipedi by the epidemic of chicken-pox which had interfered greatly with the attendance. Now that the roll numbers had risen above I’o'4 it entitled Hikutaia to have their own dental clinic, and Paeroa had made an application to have- one built at the school. In the meantime, Mt- Kelly said he -had made enquiries about a temporary clinic such as existed at the Netherton School and permission should be forthcoming for this by the time the next clinic time arrived. (Financially, things were also in- a sound condition, said Mr Kelly. This was in three- sepiarate funds and were as follows: General school fund, £145/478’; 'School social fund, £11975/d; (Picnic fund, £7/17/8. Mr Kelly concluded his report with thanks to the outgoing committee, particularly the chairman, Mr A. McCollum, for their help and co-oper-ation. Before the election of members', Mt MleCollu-m thanked his committee for their co-operation during his term of office. After the election of School Committee members the Ladies.’ Picnic Committee was elected and- is as, follows:—Mesdames C. Murdock, A. McCollum, L. Martin, H. Morrison, S. Orr, iG. (Bax, E, Bax, E. Atkinson, R. Clarke, C. Reid. Mr Kelly thanked the ladies of the past committee for the hard work done by them to always make the children’s picnic a success, and to have ample funds to do this. Thanks were due also to members of the committee and many other willing helpers who g'ave valued assistance throughout the picnic day. Mr MdColium also added his thanks to all helpers, including Mr Kelly and the school- staff.
