ANZAC DAY
SERVICE AT OPOUTERE
IMPRESSIVE ADDRESSES
The annual Anzac observance for* the Whangamata - Wharekawa - Hikuai districts was again held' at the Olpoutere Native School, when the residents of the above districts participated in an impressive memorial service jointly directed by Mr P. Wil-
liamson and Mr R. Barton and assisted by Mr 0. P. Liddell. Mr Barton’s address to the junior members was particularly impressive, and without doubt, the children “who had completed with credit the laying on of wreaths would find in his message a further meaning to that simple tribute they had paid. Mr Williamson prefaced his address to the adult attendance with a well chosen extract from Masefield and giving a vivid picture of that spirit of courage and tenacity which gave birth to Anzac and has enabled it to live through the years not only a sacred and glorious memory, but a spirit vital and. real- that has been repeated in this generation of Anzacs—deeds of courage and valour. ■
