DIAMOND JUBILEE
OHINEMURI COUNCIL QUESTION OF CELEBRATION If and how the Ohinemuri County Council should commemorate its diamond jubilee, which event occurs' in November of this year, was a subject of some discussion at the September meeting of the council. The county clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson, said he assumed that the council would wish to celebrate the event in some way. The first meeting of the council, he stated', was held on Novevber 15, 1885, and at the time of the golden jubilee, in 1935, a special jubilee issue of the Haurak Pilains Gazette was one of the features of the celebrations.
The chairman (Cr. T. A. Barrett): We might perhaps celebrate with a dinner for councillors, ex-councillors, their wives, and' civic representatives, etc.
It was decided to defer further consideration of the matter until the October meeting of the council.
