It is Universal’s technicolour romance “Gipsy Wildcat,” starring Maria Montez, in the title role, Jon Hall and Peter Coe It tells the story of Carla “Gipsy Wildcat”—loved by two men, desired by many. She becomes the storm centre of her beloved gipsy band’s tug-of-war with the villainous Baron Tovar, played by Douglass Dumbrille, who is determined to marry Carla himself. Tovar pins a false murder charge on the band and insists that it is only by marrying him that Carla can save her friends. Jon Hall, as a dashing soldier of fortune, has other ideas for freeing the imprisoned gypsies, and the way he translates them into bold action contributes much to the fast pace and thrilling moments of the picture. Not only does he succeed in effecting the release of the gypsies but he wins the tempestuous Maria Montez away from hey gipsy sweetheart, Peter Coe.
