STREET COLLECTION IN PAEROA FUNDiS FOR OLD 1 PEOPLE’S HOME ‘With the successful conclusion of the war having been reached, our association again desires to appeal to your council for permission to hold a street collection in aid of our campaign to raise funds 1 for the establishing of an Aged People’s Home,” stated a letter to the September meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council from' the Auckland Provincial Comforts Association. “You will no doubt remember that our association made application before, when your council was engaged with patriotic street collections and we feel sure that now the war has ceased that your council will appreciate the urgent necessity for the establishing of this home which will be open to aged people throughout the Auckland Province,” added the letter.
Cr. E'. L. Shaw said 'Paeroa had its own hospitals to maintain. If Auckland wanted to establish an old people’s home they should finance it themselves. He moved that permission be refused. This was seconded by Cr, W. Chamberlain and carried.
