THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is Incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY. "Public Service.” MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1945 A WELCOME GUEST
The possibility of Mr Churchill visiting Australia and New Zealand during the coming summer is increased by a cable stating that his doctors are advising the avoidance of the English winter and that Mr Churchill may sail for the Antipodes in November. Needless to say this announcement will create the keenest interest in the two Dominions, which will welcome with enthusiasm the opportunity of greeting the Empire’s war leader so soon after the ending of hostilities and will feel honoured that they have been chosen to be hosts of a man whose place in British history will be forever honoured.
The war with its exactions, the long flights made during the winter, and the ceaseless demands of the immense responsibility borne, must have taxed Mr Churchill’s strength and enduring to the full, and the - Empire had not forgotten the attack of pneumonia that caused anxiety about Mr Churchill’s health at Cairo in December, 1943. Today the fortunes of party politics have intervened to permit Mr Churchill to leave Britain during the winter and to enjoy a long rest and 1 holiday in southern lands.
Every- Australian and New Zealander will hope that the trip can be made, that they will have the opportunity of expressing their gratitude to Mr Churchill, and that he will be able to return to Britain in splendid health and with a deeper affection for the two Dominions after his first visit to their lands.
