REHABILITATION
MEETING IN COROMANDEL
CONTACT OFFICER IN DISTRICT
The first meeting of -the Coromandel Rehabilitation Committee for the New Year was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday, February. 8 when several applications from exservicemen for assistance were dealt with.
Mr T. Owen, the Rehabilitation Contact Officer who has spent several days in the district visiting ex-ser-vicemen was in attendance and gave a short resume of his activities in this and the Mercury Bay areas. He reported that he had contacted all men who were available in these areas with the object of offering any advice or help that they should need in the process of their rehabilitation. In the course of his remarks he stated that vacancies existed for ex-servicemen to learn trades and particularly mentioned the trades of fibrous plasterers, tiling and brick-laying. He stated that his department was of the opinion that good oppoi-tunities would be available to competent tradesmen in these trades in the post-war period owing to the amount of building that was bound to eventuate in this period of re-construction.
Advice was received from Mr Thorn following the committee’s representations that the Minister of Works had agreed to make available to the Coromandel County Council a sum of £4OO towards the cost of providing access to the property of a returned soldier at Whitianga. The next meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday, March 8 at
7 p.m.
