TRUCK OVER BANK

TAPU HALL ACCIDENT

DRIVER’S LUCKY ESCAPE LORRY ROLLS INTO DEEP GULLY Last week while returning to the Bay over the Tapu hill, one of the Mercury Bay Transport Co’s, trucks, driven by a local driver, met a light truck on a bend on the road and in swerving out to avoid a collision the outside wheels slipped over the bank and the truck dropped 30 to 40ft. into the gully below.

Fortunately no one was badly injured although the driver was taken to Thames in the other lorry. He was able to return home.

The lorry had taken pigs through and the double-deck wooden framework was badly smashed as the truck rolled down the bank. The truck turned right over and the driver tried to get out but the door was locked. He was carried all the way down the bank in the truck.
