BRIDGE AT MANGAITI “ OHINEMURI NOT FAIR ” PIAKO COUNTY OPINION He had met members of the Ohinemuri County Council, with Cr. W. C. Kennedy and the engineer, Mr B. H. Horner, reported the chairman, Mr J. M. Stewart, to the Piako County Council at its November meeting. It had been agreed, he said, that the Mangaiti bridge should be left standing, as the salvage value of the timber was not wqrth while and its use during the construction of a new bridge would result in considerable saving on the cost. A plan of a low-level bridge had been prepared to send to the Minister of Marine for approval said Mr Horner, and' that had been referred to the Ohinemuri County Council for support and signature. The Ohinemuri Council, however, had considered that the matter should be deferred and had returned the plans. Unfair Attitude Cr. Kennedy: The Ohinemuri County Council is definitely not fair in this matter. All we want is their support in obtaining consent for a different type of bridge < from the present one. I can now say to the ratepayers that we are doing everything in our power to keep the matter open. It lies now entirely with the Ohinemuri County. The ratepayers were entitled to know the Ohinemuri County’s reasons for their inaction, said Cr. W. A. Rushton.

On the motion of Cr. D. Johnson it was resolved to write to the -Ohinemuri County Council saying that ratepayers in the Mangaiti area were concerned over the matter and wi'shed to have all the preliminaries- completed in readiness for construction of a new bridge as soon as possible.
