OBITUARY
MR CHARLES JOHNSON FORMERLY AT KARANGAHAKE A resident of Thames for more than 30' years, Mi* Charles Johnson died recently in his 89th. year. He •had spent a long residence in New Zealand. Born in Sheffield, England, of Danish parents, Mr Johnson at the age of two went with them to Denmark. In his early youth he went to sea on one of his uncle’s ships, and followed the calling for 12 years, eventually settling in the Waiuku district of New Zealand, where he married and spent some years in farming. After the death of his wife, Mr Johnson left that district and went to Karangahake, where he remained until going to Thames in 1910. He started a nursery garden there and remained in that occupation until his death. He married again in 1912 and is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters.
