INSPECTION BY LAUNCH
TRIP UP WAIHOU RIVER IMPROVEMENTS NECESSARY At a meeting of the Thames Valley Drainage Board held recently, the chairman, Mr F. E. Hughes, reported on a recent inspection of the Waihou river, by launch, from Te Aroha to the Tirohia bridge. The inspection had proved most instructive, said Mr Hughes, and definitely revealed that some improvement was necessary in the river itself. Willows in some places were meeting from bank to bank and would prove a real menace in flood periods in the near future. The water in some areas appeared to be backing up against the river’s current. The tremendous possibilities of straightening the course by eliminating a number of bends were obvious. The desirability of asking the Public Works engineer at Paeroa to accompany board members on a future inspection of the river was decided upon. Expressions uf appreciation to Mr R. E. Farrow for making his launch available for the inspection were voiced by the .board members.
