TRUCKS DAMAGE ROADS PIAKO COUNCILLOR COMPLAINS A complaint was ’ lodged by Cr. Stark at the June meeting of the Piako County Council regarding damage. done to roads by trucks carrying excessive loads. He quoted one case of which he was aware where 12 tons of lime had been carried .in two loads. “That is six tons nett, and about nine tons gross, on each load,” said the county engineer, Mr Horner. “Heavy loads have come to stay, as I have told the council before,” he added. Cr. Stark complained that heavy, loads such as he had quoted were impairing the, roads, and he felt concern for the roads in his riding. He urged that 'the practice be stopped. A motion was passed that the matter be investigated and that the traffic inspector be asked to watch for overloading Of vehicles.
