STORM AFFECTS LIGHTS WORK AT PAEROA STATION RENOVATIONS NOW UNDER WAY (From the Hauraki. Plains Gazette of June 30, 1923.) During the height of the easterly gale on Wednesday evening some of the electric light wires became entangled and caused a fuse to blow at the transformer near the Public Works Department office. In consequence half Paeroa. was thrown into warkness for about an hour until the repairs were effected. The irony of the situation was that while only the house connections were affected, the street lamps shed their light uninterruptedly. A start has been made to renovate the refreshment rooms on the Paeroa railway station. New piles are being put down, and the kahikatea lining is to be removed and replaced with new timber. A fresh coat of point on the buildings will considerably improve the appearance, and be more in keeping with the 'pretty surroundings brought about by the Beautifying Society.
