OF GREAT VALUE

In the 21 years of its existence, 1 and the varying terms of the branches that compose the Federation of Women’s Institutes, much valuable work has been done in a quiet but efficient way. The district branches have given the womenfolk a new and communal interest for they are quite democratic in spirit and constitution and, incidentally, they have added to. the social life of the country. Office in some women’s institute .is the only public or semi-public position that many women have ever held and the monthly meetings the only gatherings over which possibly a majority of them have ever presided. It goes without saying that many deserving movements and institutions been afforded practical help, and while all phases of good housekeeping have been discussed and interest in ,the garden and other things stimulated, the institutes have also done much to foster a love of good literature and maintain an alert interest in matters of moment to the nation. The tributes paid to those who had worked so hard to found the movement were fully deserved, for the institutes are to-day a well-established and helpful feature of country life.
