CARD AFTERNOON

•PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA Attendance was only fair at the card afternoon arranged by the Paeroa Ladies’ Patriotic Committee, and held in the Civic Hall on Friday afternoon last. A lovely bowl of early iceland poppies struck a colourful note in the decorations, and a delicious afternoon tea was served by the Committee at a suitable interval between the card games. Winners proved to be:— Bridge.—Mrs J. Kidd, Mrs C. Blackwood (consolation). Mah jongg.—Mrs R. Callaway.

Five hundred.—Mrs F. McQuillan, Mrs Taylor (consolation). Two competitions held were won by Mrs ,G. Bennett and Mrs M. Parry.

The sale of home baked cakes would supplement the proceeds from this very pleasant afternoon. Ladies of the committee expressed sympathy and loving thoughts to those of their number who were unable to be present through illness.
