BABY SHOW

COMPETITION AT NGATEA TWENTY-FOUR ENTRANTS WOMEN’S ' INSTITUTE MEETS There were twenty-four entrants in the ißaby Show held Iby the Ngatea Worrten’s Institute, in conjunction with their July meeting, when Miss T. Paul presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. In the absence of the secretary Mrs A. Ward, the duties were ably carried out Iby Mrs D. Waite. Miss Paul spoke of the loss the institute had sustained in the recent death of one of the Ngatea foundation members, Mrs A. R. Vowles. All present stood in silence as an expression of love and respect to her memory, and in sympathy with the family. During the business, the meeting decided to donate '£l this year to the Combined Orphanages’ Appeal. In the competition, a child’s feeder made from waste material, the large number of entries displayed were creditably dainty and serviceable and will Ibe forwarded as a to the Thames Hospital. Winners of this section were Mrs 'H. E. Hole 1, Miss T. Paul 2, Mrs E. J. Thomas 3. A waltzing competition resulted in an award to Mrs Foster and Mrs Colyer, while Mrs J. Waite was the possessor of the lucky door number. Mrs Constantine won the remaining competition. The judges for the baby show, Mrs A. McClean and Mrs 'Parker, of Waitakaruru, had a most difficult task before them. Both were presented with beautiful shoulder sprays. The baby prize winners, in the various sections were as follows:—Under 6 months, 'Lorna Boatswain. Six-12 months; Maxim Bilcich. One yeartwo years, Nancy Cocks and Judith Wheeler (equal). All present voted for the happiest baby and the result was found to be for Grahme Roberts.

Each winner was the recipient of a very nice gift and the mother received a floral tribute. In the gardening circle’s competitions, winners were:—Best bloom, Mrs Thomas 1, Miss Irwin 2. Floating coupe, Miss Irwin 1, Mrs H. E. Cole 2. Best parsnip, Mrs 0. Dalgety 1, Mrs Cole 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs O. Dalgety, Mrs J.

Galvin and Mrs J. Darlington. The

meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
