WHEN IN HOSPITAL
RATION BOOK NEEDED MUST BE SURRENDERED ADVICE TO THE THAMES BOARD That every patient entering hospital for 14 days or more must surrender his ration book to the hospital authorities was disclosed in a circular from the Controller of Supplies to the monthly meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. The circular read as under: — ■ “Applications for supplies 1 of sugar are to be made to rationing officers and are to show separately the numerical strength of the resident staff and the average number of patients. Permits will foe issued for quantities required, but in general boards are expected to keep within the ration scale of 12 ounces for each resident and 14 ounces 1 for each patient per week.
‘‘Provision may be made in application for supplies for non-resident staff such as doctors, dentists and laundry workers 1 who may be supplied with sugar for morning and afternoon tea, etc.
“Hospital boards may make application for all hospitals under their jurisdiction. “Patients for whom provision* is made in a hospital for less than fourteen days are not required to surrender their ration books. If they are resident for fourteen days or more, ration books must be surrendered to the hospital authorities who are required to cut out and destroy all coupons up to date before returning the books to the patients on discharge. “The ration books of all resident staff are to be held by the hospital authority and may not 'be released to the owners until all coupons up to date have been removed. “It will not be necessary for applications submitted 'by hospital boards to be supported by coupons taken from the ration books of staff and patients, but boards are relied upon to see that the approprate ration coupons are cut out. This is necessary to prevent any section of the public from having advantage over any other section.”
