COAL FOR SCHOOL

NEEDED FOR HEATING

REQUIREMENTS NOW MET

ACTION TAKEN BY MR J. THORN

In a recent issue of the Gazette there appeared a report of a discussion at a meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee regarding the difficulty of procuring coal for heating at the school because schools were not an essential industry.

When this report appeared Mr J. Thorn, M.P., for Thames, took the matter up with the Minister of Mines with a request that he take a personal interest in meeting the requirements of the committee.

Mr Thorn has now advised the Gazette that he has received the following reply from Hon. P. C. Webb: “Replying to your letter of May 18 I have to advise that a truck of coal was consigned from the mine to Brenan and Company for the use of the Paeroa District High School.

“The secretary of the school committee was advised that the coal would reach Paeroa at an early date,” the letter concluded.
