NGATEA PARKING

DANGEROUS PRACTICE IN FRONT OF THEATRE PROBLEM AT WAITAKARURU Referring to what he termed was a potential danger to life, Mr J. W. Neate objected at Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council to the manner in which cars were parked in front of the Ngatea Picture Theatre on Saturday nights.

Mr Neate explained that some time ago he had brought up the question of cars parking on each side of the road and the Traffic Inspector had visited Ngatea with the result that the danger had been removed.

Now, continued Mr iNeate, the cars are parking two-deep in front of the theatre which, he contended, was dangerous if people had to leave the theatre in a hurry in the eveht of a Are or an air-raid. He contended that the people could not get through the double row of cars as quickly and as easily as they should.

Mr Neate stated that in some places cars were not allowed to park in front Of theatres so that in case of emergency the patrons could escape quickly/

“If the people left the building in a panic those ifi front could not get through the double row of parked cars quickly enough to let the massof people behind get out of the theatre and people would be crushed in the ensuing struggle,” stated Mr Neate. He urged that no cars be allowed to park in front of the theatre.

Mr F. Pinchess 'said the problem was exactly the same at Waitakaruru. It was decided to refer the matter to the. Traffic Inspector for his attention. * i
