DAMAGE DURING THE MONTH

HAURAKI PLAINS AFFECTED

“Two severe lightning storms were experienced during the month, one on Tuesday, March 18, about 1.40 p.m., in the Matamata and Waihou districts, when seven transformers in the Waihou area, and one in the Matamata area were put out of action; and another on March 24 about 1.45 p.m., in the Hauraki Plains area, when nine transformers in the Mangata-rata-Back Miranda road section were put out of action, and a number of meters were damaged. Fortunately none of the transformers was injured, the damage being confined to blown 11 k.v. fuses,” reported the -chief engineer, Mr N. G. McLeod, to Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board.
