“IRENE”

FINAL SHOWING TO-NIGHT

THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE

EXCELLENT MUSICAL COMEDY

“Irene,” shows finally to-night at the Regent Theatre.

Based on tfie musical comedy which had Brodway audiences howling for 235 performances, “The Boys From Syracuse” brings a brigade of singing stars and laugh luminaries to the screen of the Regent Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday. Featured in the talented cast assembled by Levey for his first production are Allan Jones, Martha. Raye, Joe Penner, Rosemary. Lane, Irene Hervey, Charles Butterworth, Alan Mowbray, Eric Blore and Samuel S. Hinds.

A farce comedy set in ancient Greece, the film deals with domestic mix-ups involving two sets of identical twins an dthree Grecian-girls.

Jones is cast as a Grecian general, married to Miss Hervey. The actor also appears as his own twin brother, an interloper from Syracuse (Greece) who is taken into Miss .Hervey’s home and entertained lavishly—by mistake. Penner is seen as Miss Raye’s husband and his own twin brother, who is similarly mixed up with Martha. Aside from Jones’ “movie marriage” to Miss Hervey, who is in fact his wife off-screen, the actor also makes love to Miss Lane. The latter plays Miss Hervey’s sister. The musical score by Rodgers and. Hart, noted song-writing team, includes four numbers from the stage play and two new tunes. The new numbers are “Who Are You?” sung by Jones, and “The Greeks Have No Word For It,” by Martha Raye. The others are “This Can’t Be Love,” sungby Miss Lane, “Falling In Love With Love,” by Jones, “Sing For Your Supper,” with vocal by Miss Raye, and “He And She,” novelty number by Miss Raye and Penner. Supports include aycartoon entitled. “Tom Thumb Junior,” “Going Places,” another of the popular travel series and the latest Overseas and Colonial News.
