PICNIC AT KOMATA

METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL

FUNCTION HELD ON SATURDAY"

The Paeroa Methodist Sunday School picnic was held pn Mr L. Shaw’s farm at Komata Creek on Saturday, March 29. Forty-four children were conveyed to the creek in private cars and there was a good attendance of parents, a very enjoyable day being spent by all. A good old-fashioned lunch and. afternoon tea was presided over by the ladies of the Methodist Church.

The men of the church organised ■the sports programme, the winners -■ of the races being as follow:—

Girls, 7 years.—June Millar 1, Margory Ziegler 2. Boys, 7. years.—Allan Pennell 1, Ken Wheeler 2.

Boys, 10 and 11 years.—Brien Saunders 1, James Millett 2. Girls, 9 and 16 years.—Colleen Pennell 1, Marion Ryde 2. Junior. Endeavour girls.—Evelyn King 1, Jacqueline Prime 2. Senior boys.—Merlin Wood 1, Stewart Wheeler 2.

Senior girls’ high jump.—Evelyn King 1, Joyce Walden 2. Senior boys’ high jump.—Merlin Wood 1, Walter Ryde 2. Junior girls’ high jump.—Colleen Pennell 1, Marion Ryde 2. Junior boys’ high jump.—Colin Wood 1, Brian Saunders 2. Senior boys’ obstacle race.—Walter Ryde 1, Merlin Wood 2. Boys’ three-legged, race. —Merlin Wood and Walter Ryde 1. Girls v. boys chariot race was won by the girls.

.. Swimming and diving events were also on the programme.

The children before, leaving for home showed their appreciation by giving three cheers for the Sunday ■School teachers and for those who had contributed to a very enjoyable, picnic.
