VANDALS AT WHARF
CARGO THROWN INTO RIVER LOCK & GATE TO BE RENEWED. Depredations at the Ngahina wharf were mentioned at the meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council last evening consequent upon a report from the local agent of the Northern Steamship Company, Mr J. W. Silcock. The fact that the area near the wharf had been used for parking of cars by parties was stated in the agent’s letter. As a result of those parties the entrance gate had been wired but recently a car had crashed through the gate and smashed it. The gate was to protect deck cargo on the wharf, and no person had authority to enter. The agent requested renewal of the lock and repair of the fence. Cr. E. Edwards stated that on one occasion several drums of fuel had been thrown off the wharf into the river, but fortunately they had been recovered.
The council agreed to repair the gate and instal a chain and padlock.
