APPROVAL BOARD
STATE OF ELECTRIC FITTINGS POWER BOARD’S DIVIDED VIEW. The first division taken at the Thames Valley Electric Power Board for some considerable time occurred at yesterday’s meeting following on the discussion of remits to the annual power boards conference to be held at Wellington next month. The remit which caused the division was one advocating the Government’s setting up of an approval board regarding the standard of electrical equipment allowed to be placed on the market. Mr F. E. Flatt supported the formation of such a board on the ground of public protection. Faulty material was liable to cause loss of life, he contended.
Opposition to the setting up of a board was expressed by Messrs H. M. Corbett and J. F. Mayn, the latter stating that if material were not satisfactory it would not be disposed of. “When the damage has been done,” remarked the chairman, Mr J. Price. The motion of Messrs Mayn and Corbett that the remit seeking the establishment of such a board should not be supported was carried by five votes to four.
