BOARD TO BE SUED
ALLEGED BREACHES OF AWARD VALLEY POWER AFFAIRS. » The Thames Valley Electric Power Board met at Te Aroha yesterday. Present: Messrs J- Price, chairman; F. E. Flatt, H. M. Corbett, T. A. Barrett, J. M. Allen, J. Pohlen, J. McCormick, J. F. Mayn, H. R. Bush, C. A. Arthur, the chief engineer, Mr N. G. McLeod, and the manager, Mr R. Sprague. The Local Government Loans Board advised that an Order-in-Council would be issued authorising the raising of a further instalment of £lO,OOO from the £75,000 electricity loan. Remits for the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities conference to be. held in Wellington in October were forwarded. The Electric Power Boards Association forwarded a report on the Dominion award.
The Franklin board requested support for the remit to the conference (a) That the proposed setting up of a Dominion award for all electric power boards and supply authorities be proceeded with and put into effect; (b) that the executive and secretary explain the reasons why the delay in carrying out the instructions of the conference in the above connection had occurred.
The Department of Labour at Hamilton advised that proceedings would be taken against the board in connection with alleged award breaches. The inspector asked that should the cases be decided in favour of the workers, arrears should be paid to the workers otherwise it would be necessary to file civil actions on behalf of each one.
The following recommendations of the finance committee were adopted: That accounts amounting to £32,972 12s 7d be passed for payment; that Mr A. M. Bartley be appointed architect to the board for the building renovations; that further applications for junior assistant engineer be advertised in southern papers. -
