DRAMATIC CLUB

TWO PLAYS AT NGATEA KAIHERE’S PRESENTATIONS. The Kaihere Dramatic Club presented two excellent plays in the Ngatea Hall last night. The first was a farce entitled “Postal Orders,” written by Roland Pertwe. Miss L. Davis and Miss L. Foote acted very well as the two pert post office assistants, while Miss A. Bird played excellently the part of the elderly and easilyoffended postmistress.' The play was a clever illustration of the proverbial wasting of time that is supposed to go on in post offices. A number of the old jokes made famous by Punch and other well-known humorous journals were incorporated in the play.

The second item was rather more ambitious, a three-act play called “Facing the Music.” This was a very polished performance, and held the interest from start to finish. Mr H. G. McGowan in the role of John Smith gave an outstanding performance, in a solo speech particularly. Mrs L. McDonald as Nora, his wife, acted very naturally. Miss G. Spiers as Mrs Ponting, the disreputable housekeeper, gave a good display. The whole performance was good, although some parts were acted rather woodenly. Two members of Cosgrove’s Melody Makers gave incidental music between acts, and in the interval between, plays the whole audience took part in a community sing. Immediately following the performance supper was served and dancing commenced. The evening was a very enjoyable one, the entertainment excellent, and the audience large and appreciative.
