« —~ _ PAEROA LADIES’ ASSOCIATIONSATURDAY’S MATCHES. i On Saturday last hockey enthusiasts i were. treated to two representative I games at the local Domain. The first : match, between the D. McL. Wallace ! team of Te Aroha and the Paeroa Association’s B team was interesting . throughout. Paeroa, immediately upon commencement of play, took the stand of attack, the forwards forcing very con-sistently-and the visitors’ backs being hard put to it to clear. The forwards showed promise of more combination than is usually noticeable in the local B team, while the Te Aroha forwards did not seem to possess the knack of short, clean passing, which is always the best asset a forward line can have. The conclusion of play saw the score at three—nil, in favour of Paeroa B. Misses O’Neill, Pivott and N. Smithscored for Paeroa. Johnston Cup Match. The second match, between the Waihi representative team and the Paeroa A team, was one of the best games witnessed on the Domain this season. Although the home team forced hard continuously the Waihi backs played a wonderful defensive game. The combination of the Paeroa forwards and halves proved too much for their opponents. The ball passed from wing to wing in fine style on several occasions, short clean hits being the order of the day' where the local forwards were concerned. Paeroa was very unfortunate in losing Miss Shand (the captain) just before half time, but the Waihi captain consented to a replacement. At the conclusion of play Paeroa was leading by three goals to nil, the scores being secured by Miss V. Shand (1) and Mrs L. Nield (2). Mr L. A. Doolan acted as referee for both matches. The second match was the result of a challenge having been received from the Waihi Association for the Johnson Cup, which is still retained by the Paeroa Association, which won it from Thames last season. After the matches both teams were entertained to afternoon tea in the Parish Hall by the Paeroa Association. Mr L. A. Doolan, President of the Paeroa Association, complimented the Waihi team on its very fine game, and Mr W. Williams, President of the Waihi Association, congratulated Paeroa on retaining the shield, and 1 thanked it for the hospitality to its ■ visitors. . i
