FOR MOTOR TRAFFIC.

EXPENSIVE REGULATIONS. COST OF ILLUMINATED SIGNS. At Thursday’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council it was decided to support the protest which tfce Pukekche Borough Council has sent to the Commissioner of Transport against the expense local bddies will be put to if the proposed heavy traffic motor vehicle regulations are complied with. Exception is taken to one regulation which states: “In every district where a system of street lighting is in existence the local body shall either adequately illuminate the face of every street classification'sign or provide some form of self-illuminating classification sign.” Although the Commissioner of Transport anticipates, that the cost of this to local bddies will be small, the Council considers that, the ' expense would be considerable, and should be avoided until more prosperous times. The Council admits that the expense of erecting street classification signs is unavoidable, but takes exception to the suggestion that these should be illuminated. The Council thinks that the signs need not be lighted as the public will become familiar with them during the hours of daylight. , It was stated at a recent meeting of the Franklin I County Council that as there are 143 roads in the Franklin County 286 plates on posts would have to be erected. The cost of this work would be, at least £286.
