UNITED CANDIDATE.
THAMES SEAT. MR. MARSHALL NOT STANDING. The announcement made in the Thames and Auckland “Stars’ on Friday last that Mr W. Marshall, Alayor of Paeroa, had acceded to the request of an influential deputatiton to contest the Thames seat at the general election in the interests of the United Party, has no foundation whatever. Interviewed, Mr Marshall said that the first information he had on the matter was from the Auckland ‘Star” of Friday night. There had been no deputation or request of any kind, and he had not even considered the matter. At (various times, he had been, approached by supporters of all the parties, but had never given, the question of offering his services serious consideration. Mr C. Mason, the present United candidate for the seat, when interviewed. expressed indignation at the report that he had retired in favour of Mr Marshall. He had not retiredj so in this respect the report emanating from Thames was a pure flight of ' imagination. 1
