HEALTH INSPECTOR’S REPORT.

PROGRESS OF WORK TO DATE.

At the request of the Ohineunuri Licensing Committee on Friday last Mr B. Franklin, Chief Public Health Inspector, Auckland, reported as follows on the then prevailing conditions of several hotels- which were the subject of applications for publican’s licenses :— KEREPEEHI HOTEL. This hotel had been completed. Provision was made for hot a,nd cold showerbaths, lavatory upstairs, four conveniences downstairs, separate! bathroom and accommodation for the. staff, satisfactory septic tank and drainage, a,nd an adequate water supply, fire alarms, and escapes. The requirements of the Act had been complied with. CRITERION HOTEL, PAEROA. The work so far on this building was reported to be satisfactory. The plumbing complied with the borough by-laws. There were six conveniences, concrete cellar, and adequate fire alarms. A satisfactory fire escape in iron wa,s being erected. COMMERCIAL HOTEL, PAEROA.

This building was practically completed, with the exception of small details. The whole work was quite satisfactory, and complied with the requirements.

Referring to the committee’s requisition, Mr E. J. Clendon asked that the wooden fire, escape, which had been erected at a cost df £35, be allowed to obtain. It would be an unnecessary expense if the wooden t'.scape had to be pulled down and be substituted with iron. The Thames Licensing Committee ha.d always held that wooden escapes were satisfactory. A plea was entered that the first clause, of the. requisition should be varied. Mr B. Franklin said thitt the wooden escape was quite adequate, and met with the requirements of tiie Act.

inspector Willis, representing the Police Department, said that he had never heilrd ofi iron escapes being insisted upon. He ha.d inspected the premises, and held that the existing wooden fire-escape was adequate. After a brief consultation with his colleagues the chairman (Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M.) said that the committee was not prepared to vary the requisition. ROB ROY HOTEL, WAITH. Nothing was compT.ted in this instance, but tlie plans and specifications were quite satisfactory, COMMERCIAL HOTEL, WAIHI. The plans for this building were approved, but tlie work had not been commenced. On behalf of Mr E. H. Northcroft, counsel for the applicant, Mr R. McVe.agh explained that the delay had occurred primarily through the Waihi Borough Council not knowing its position with regard to drainage. An agreement had since been readied, iijiid a septic tank to cost between £3OO and £4OO would be installed. GOLDEN CROSS, WAIHI. This hotel had been completed satisfactorily. A final certificate would be issued as soon as the bedding arrived. PAEROA. HOTEL. The plans had been .approved, and tlie work was being carried out, satisfactorily, but was not completed. WAIKINO HOTEL. The work on this building would be completed about June 28, when it was hoped to issue a final certificate.
