OKURU’S WAR EFFORT REALISES £l5O

A most successful bazaar, in aid of the Patriotic Fund, organised by the iadies of Okuru, Huliuka and Ilaast, terminated in Okuru J Haliotf Saturday evening, the 29th. November. Sales of goods,, including articles of clothing too numerous to - mention, and- food Stuffs of every description, Jrealised fantastic sums, and the proceedings were;enlivened by dances ti> the strains of the piano and piccolo, rendered -by Mr R. Christensen and Mr J. Henderson. Articles were sold and resold quite a number of times, and substantial prices paid. The Managing Committee Were Miss M, Ritchie (secretary and actingtreasurer), Mr and Mrs W. Robertson, Mr B. Cowan, and Mr W. D. Nolan, Junr. The treasurer was unavoidably absent. Roast goose, chicken and lamb, delicious cakes and a variety of-fancy cooking, reflecting great credit' on the ladies of Okuru and surrounding districts, were- readily sold. Mr P. Nolan rendered valuable service in the sale of goods. Some of the articles disposed of were as follows: — '

A free trip to Hokitika by aeroplane, donaed by Messrs Harris and Cowell, was won by. Mrs J. Nolan, Senr., of. Wataroa, realising £lB/15/0. Man’s knitted pullover, knitted' and donated by, Mrs W. Robertson, was won by her husband who again'&ubmitted it for re-sale. It was sold and re-sold several times, and was eventually : bought by Mrs G. Morris for £3/8/0 —realising a total of £l2/3/0. A large Christmas cake/ donated by Mrs W. D. Nolan, was secured by Mr C. Eggeiing, realising. £3/19/0. A Christinas lamb' donated by Miss Myrtle Cron, fell to Miss Apn Nolan, realising £4/13/o'. Christmas lamb, donated by Mr W. D. Nolan, was obtained by Mr V. Green, realising £2/5/0.

A Loewe pipe, donated by Mrs G. Morris, was'finally secured by Mrs J. Harris', realising £2/18/6. Brush and comb' donated by 'Mrs' W: BuOhanan, was obtained’ by Air -J&. Cowell, realising £4/16/0. I Crochet cushion, donated by Airs P. Nolan, was obtained by Mrs J; Jdck- - sonV.realising £B, One pair of slippers, donated by Mrs. Cowan, S'ehr;, fell to’ Airs B.
