INVALIDED SOLDIERS
AUCKLAND, Dee. 6
Seventeen soldiers invalided home from overseas; arrived at -Auckland to-day, in a special railway sleeping car. They were met by relations, friends and representatives of the Army Department. The Army provided transport to, the homes, and three who were travelling to Whangarei, were given a meal at the station restaurant. The men are being discharged from the Army, but will be given hospital or other treatment required.
MONTH’S GAOL. DUNEDIN, Dec. 9. In the Police Court, James Macken was sentenced to one month’s gaol for assaulting an aircraftsman in uniform. The police stated an argument arose at-a pie cart between accused and the artilleryman in uniform. It is alleged that either the accused or his companion used insulting language regarding the artilleryman being in uniform. The Aircraftsman intervened and was struck .by the accused on his lips, which had to be stitched. Magistrae Bundle said had it been proved that the accused made the insulting remarks concerning the wearing of a uniform, he would have imposed the maximum penalty.
