The December meeting of the Hokitika Women’s Institute-- toot the form of a Christmas party' complete «*tb Father Xmas and a decorated tree. After the singing of the Institute song and the reading o.f the aspirations by Mrs Graham, the minutes of ;the previous meeting were confirmed and correspondence dealt with. A party of school girls under the direction of Miss Dale gave an enjoyable, (entertainment of choral speaking, pari ‘singing folk dancing and items, after {which they were entertained at supper. ; An innovation was the programme then presented bv members* who had {joined during 1940, viz.: Mesdames Bain, Brooking, Da we, Langden,- Childs, :Big‘.kland. Neal Butland, Bennett, Hog wood. West and - Montagu:* Their items which - brought forth new talent(were enthusiastically, encored and -Fath!er Xmas gave gifts to the members. •The roll call caused’merriment -over its poetic response. One new member was proposed. The winners of the best-bloom ivere Mesdames Fredric Ist'and -Park--1,111 9 n d.- Following, s tipper which was(served to thb largest 'gathering of-meim-jbers for the year,- by Misses'Ehight - ,(3), Walker, Mesdames Couch;' Hantta and Jordan, the meeting-closed 'with'the!
