HOKITIKA R.S.A.
MONTHLY EXECUTIVE MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Hokitika R.S.A; was held in the Soldiers’ Hall, Hokitika, last evening. Present, Dr. T. W. J. Childs (President), Messrs R. Paterson (secretary), F. McGregor, J. S. Bain, G. C. Wilson, P. R. Whitlord, W. M ( . Fraser, G. A. King, 11. W. : G. Park, C. Hart and J. N. Robinson. An apology for absence was received from Messrs W. Eastgate and T. Stuart. ' The hospital visitors for the mouth, Messrs Fraser and Park, reported that there were six ex-servicemen in the'' Westland Hospital and that the usual tobacco or fruit was issued to each one.
'it was decided to send a letter of appreciation of lier services to ex-service-men to Miss M. E. Anderson, Matron of the Westland Hospital, on her departure from the district. A letter was received from Private A. Agnew at present in England with the 2nd Echelon, enclosing ra copy of the troopship magazine compiled and published aboard the Andes. The magazine also contained the autographs of all the Hokitika. District Soldiers on board the troopship. A letter was also received from a soldier in Egypt asking the R.S.A. to enquire regarding his mother’s health and if any assistance is required on the farm. The secretary reported that he had make the necessary enquiries and had made a reassuring reply to the Soldier. v
Advice was received from Mr Bert Jacobs, Dominion Vice-President, that he would be present at the 21st Birthday Banquet to be held at Hokitika on the 9th October.The Department of Internal Affairs advised that headstones for erection in the Hokitika Cemetery had been ordered for the late A. W. Dowell and A. J. Will mot. Headquarters forwarded a request from the Westland Provincial Patriotic Council,! that it appoint a representative on the proposed Hokitika Rehabilitation Committee. Mr J. S. Bain was appointed to represent the Association. Headquarters advised that the membership at the end of July was 23,531 and that; Hokitika, was 31st on the membership ladder with a membership of 159. - ’ ( r. The secretary reported that he had three cases of books ready for shipment for the men of the N.Z.E.F. and that anyone having suitable books they wish to donate are requested to forward same to the secretary as soon as possible.' Accounts amounting to £25/18/5 were passed for. payment. .The resignation of Mr' G. Gilchrist was received with regret and the secretary was instructed to forward him a letter of appreciation of his services. Mr C. H. Harrison was appointed to fill the vacancy on the executive. Arrangements were finalised for the holding of the Birthday Ball and the 21st Birthday Banquet. '
