CAR .BLOWS UP
BRISBANE, June 28
With a shattering explosion heard in settlers’ homes miles away, a sports car blew up on the main Btris-bane-Warwick road near Mt Edwards township this morning.
Owen Eugene Geary, 57, of Brisbane, a passenger in the car, was killed outright, and Herbert Rudolph Hermann, 2S, 'dirivor, fsii (Toped injuries to the face, head, and legs.
The car was being driven towards Texas, where Hermann was to have delivered a quantity of explosives. In the back of the car were two gallons of petrol, two coils of fuse wire, and four five-pound packets of gelignite. In the pockets of the doors were 100 detonators.
Soon after passing through Mount Edwards township both men thought they smelt something burning, and the. car was stopped. Hermann went to inspect the engine, and Geary went to the back of the car and opened the dickey-seat. As he did so the car blew up, killing him instantly.
