AUCKLAND, April 30.
Thousands of Aucklanders were late for work to-day. On the trams it seemed to he all stopping and starting, with little speed between the stops. Travellers realised they were the innocent victims of a dispute between tramway employees and the Transport Board over wages claims.
The motormen ; nd conductors claim they were working in accordance with “safety first'’ regulations, the conductors making sure the hack of their platforms were clear before moving away from .the safety zones. Tramwaymen: .contend if certain regulations, designed for the safety of the public are strictly.adhered to, it is impossible for the tramway service to work smoothly to schedule. Many passengers left the trams before reaching the city, and readied their destinations well ahead of their trams.
